Welcome to a New School Year!!

Welcome Students!

I'm very excited to start the 2018-2019 school year. Welcome to the High Rock Middle School! It seems like the summer flew by so fast, but I am very glad to see you all here today. There are so many fun and exciting things about sixth grade; I cannot wait to get started. You will have a tremendous year here in Cluster 3, and you’ll make some friends and memories that will stay with you for a long time. You will also be learning and accepting challenges from all your teachers this year. I am writing to introduce myself so that you can get to know me better.

This is my thirteenth year teaching sixth grade in Needham. Before this I taught third grade at the Hillside School for a couple years. It was fun teaching third grade, but I really think sixth grade is the best! I am also very glad to be teaching Social Studies, my favorite subject, as I love learning about history, looking at maps, and discovering ancient civilizations.

I am from West Roxbury, and my family still lives there. I went to a high school called Boston Latin. There I studied Latin for six years (and some other things, too). While I was studying at Boston University, I lived in Italy for a year. If you were wondering, my last name is Italian, and I still have family members in Italy. I speak Italian, and I also love to cook Italian food. My husband, Ángel, is from Venezuela so I am trying to learn Spanish and how to cook Venezuelan food too.

Some of my favorite things to do are to travel and read. I have been to Italy several times, to Greece, and also to Ecuador in South America and to different parts of the USA like California and Arizona. One of my favorite places to go is my family’s summer home in Gilmanton, New Hampshire. There’s nothing much up there except trees, fish, mountains and stars at night. This summer I participated in an archaeological dig near Delphi, Greece. I’ve also dug in Rome and other places in Greece. After the dig, I traveled all over Spain and Portugal with Ángel.

There are two more things that I love: hockey and rock music. During hockey season I never miss a game, and believe it or not a few years ago I got my season tickets and saw the Bruins win the Stanley Cup! Last season, they broke my heart when they fell apart at the playoffs. The good thing is that when the Bruins are having a tough time, I can always switch over to the BU Terriers crushing BC. I enjoy all kinds of music, but especially music I can sing (yell?) along with Nirvana, pthe White Stripes, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Green Day.

Well, I look forward to teaching you many things this school year, and I can’t wait to learn all about you! We are going to have a great year together!

Your Teacher,
Mr. Guerriero
